The Righteous Shall Be in Everlasting Remembrance

Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord,
That delighteth greatly in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth:
The generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house:
And his righteousness endureth for ever.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness:
He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth:
He will guide his affairs with discretion.
Surely he shall not be moved for ever:
The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings:
His heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
His heart is established, he shall not be afraid,
Until he see his desire upon his enemies.
He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor;
His righteousness endureth for ever;
His horn shall be exalted with honour.
The wicked shall see it, and be grieved;
He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away:
The desire of the wicked shall perish.

Psalm 112 (KJV)

Today marks three years since my Opa left behind this mortal life for the rest of eternity. There is not a day that goes by that I do not miss his wonderful presence, and I thank God continually for him and for the privilege of being his oldest grandson. I am happy to say I had an earthly hero in him. Opa’s influence continues to bless me, especially since I know he started each day by praying for me to grow in my love for God. He showed me how much he loved God by his actions. Prayers flowed freely from his lips and his joy in reading and memorizing passages from the Bible was evident. He regularly dispensed wisdom and he sought to mortify his sin with a holy hatred of it. Few men have a front row seat to true, loving greatness, but I did. I will cherish his memory with the knowledge that we will be together again. I look forward to worshiping God in His presence with Opa.

  1. “As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field;
    for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.
    But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to children’s children, to those who keep his covenant
    and remember to do his commandments.” (Psalm 103:15-18)

    Nathan, the Spirit of Christ who dwells richly in your Opa forever also dwells richly in you! What a joy and privilege to see God’s glory manifest in your life! You glorify God because His Word is yes and amen in you, as your life is hidden in Christ! This in turn brings glory to your Opa’s life in Christ! Praising God with you!

  2. Thank you, Nathan, for sharing your heart!  I loved reading your thoughts and the verse you chose to reflect on as you remember your Opa!  It was also very special to listen again to your message about the impact your Opa had on your life!  Your Opa will not be forgotten because of the righteous legacy he left behind and within you!  Nathan, God is using you mightily for His Kingdom!  Continue the good work! Your Opa would be proud, but greater than this is the Delight the Lord has as He sings over you. His beloved son!Blessings,Debbie

  4. Thank you for sharing Nathan. It reminds me of when my great grandmother passed away. While I was growing up I typically kept to myself in family parties, yet eventually her and I found company with one another and it’s been 11 years since she has passed. I missed her greatly, yet I’m thankful the Lord has given me more memories with those who are still here and new opportunities to serve them. Nonetheless, it is a blessing to hear how much your Opa has inspired you and helped you in your walk with the Lord. It’s a blessing having a relative pray for you and demonstrate a loyal diligence to serving the Lord. Once again, thank you for sharing and it’s great reading things from you.
